In 1958, Matsuda graduated from the famous Bunka School of Design. Matsuda and his best friend, Kenzo Takada, took a steamship to Paris in 1962 in search of inspiration. In Paris, Matsuda fell in love with the details found in classic gothic architecture and the whimsical designs of art nouveau. Both of which became strong references for his future eyewear collections. In 1989 Matsuda presented his first ever eyewear collection.

They were prominently featured in several major motion pictures such as “The Terminator.” He was honored for his life of design and innovation. His avant-garde approach to fashion inspired the world and paved the way for many new designers that followed. After being off the market for many years, the Matsuda eyewear brand was relaunched.
